Thailand held their nerve to defeat Hong Kong, China by six runs in the opening match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai.

First Innings: Chaiwai Leads Thailand to 120/9
Thailand made a steady start after being asked to bat. Phannita Maya scored 19 before captain Naruemol Chaiwai and wicketkeeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai built the innings.
Chaiwai played the most important knock, scoring 43 from 31 balls with four fours and two sixes. Koncharoenkai supported her with 27 as Thailand moved into a strong position at 100/2.
Hong Kong then produced a remarkable comeback. Thailand lost seven wickets for only 20 runs during the final 3.1 overs and finished on 120/9.
Marina Lamplough led the collapse with outstanding figures of 4/11. Alison Siu took three wickets, while Kary Chan claimed two.
Second Innings: Thailand Defend Target in Final Over
Hong Kong lost Mariko Hill for a duck, but Kary Chan attacked early with a quick 28 from 20 balls. Yasmin Daswani also made 28, although her 41-ball innings allowed the required run rate to increase.
Lamplough revived the chase by smashing 22 from only 11 deliveries. Her dismissal at 84/4 was a major turning point, leaving Hong Kong needing 37 runs from the final 27 balls.
Onnicha Kamchomphu finished with 3/27 as Thailand kept taking wickets at crucial moments. Hong Kong entered the last over needing 15 runs to win.
The Thailand captain received the award for her match-defining 43 from 31 balls. Her attacking innings ultimately provided the difference between the two teams.
Thailand have now won all eight of their Women’s T20I meetings against Hong Kong. The victory gave them a successful start to their Asia Cup campaign, while Hong Kong could take encouragement from pushing a higher-ranked opponent until the final over.
