India have moved the all-rounder to their ODI squad as the home series against West Indies overlaps with the Asian Games. Shubman Gill will captain the one-day side, which also includes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
NEW DELHI: Nitish Kumar Reddy will miss the Asian Games after being selected for India’s home one-day international series against West Indies. The change was confirmed as India announced squads for the West Indies ODIs and T20Is, along with an updated squad for the Japan T20I and Asian Games.
The two assignments overlap. India’s three-match ODI series against West Indies begins on 27 September, while the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games takes place during the same period. Reddy has been assigned to the ODI side rather than the Asian Games team.
Why was Reddy withdrawn? His withdrawal from the Asian Games squad follows his selection for the West Indies ODIs. It was not announced as an injury-related change.
Gill leads ODI squad; Rohit and Kohli included
Shubman Gill has been named ODI captain, with KL Rahul as vice-captain. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are also in the 15-member squad. Reddy joins an all-round group that includes Ravindra Jadeja, while Yashasvi Jaiswal provides another opening option.
Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi have received their maiden ODI call-ups. Dhruv Jurel has been selected as the second wicketkeeper; Rishabh Pant is absent from the squad.

Who will play at the Asian Games?
Shreyas Iyer will captain India for the T20I against Japan and at the Asian Games. Tilak Varma is vice-captain. The updated Asian Games group includes Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan.
Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the Japan match and Asian Games with a side strain, with Vipraj Nigam named as his replacement. Yash Thakur has also entered the squad in place of Harshit Rana.

Reddy also named for West Indies T20Is
