Shafali Verma’s century powered India into the women’s cricket final, the hockey teams opened with emphatic wins, and the shooting squad delivered two silver medals on a busy day in Aichi-Nagoya.
India’s second day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games combined medal success with commanding team performances. Elavenil Valarivan led a two-silver shooting effort, Shafali Verma produced a match-defining hundred, and both Indian hockey teams made forceful starts to their campaigns.
Shafali century sends India into gold-medal match
India defeated Bangladesh by 114 runs in the women’s T20 semifinal, with Shafali Verma’s century providing the foundation for the dominant result. The victory secured India’s place in the gold-medal contest and continued a confident run through the tournament.
Shafali combined power with control, putting Bangladesh under pressure before the chase began. India’s bowlers then protected the total decisively, turning a strong batting performance into one of the clearest victories of the day.
Hockey teams begin with statement victories
India’s women’s team overwhelmed Uzbekistan 19-0 in its opening pool fixture. Deepika scored eight goals during a performance in which India maintained territorial control and converted chances throughout the match.
The men’s team followed with a 13-1 win over Indonesia. Dilpreet Singh scored four times as the defending champions began their title defence with sustained attacking pressure. The early victories give both teams momentum, although tougher pool and knockout assignments remain ahead.
Elavenil anchors India’s double silver in shooting
Elavenil Valarivan claimed silver in the women’s 10m air rifle individual final with a score of 252.4. It was her second medal of the day after she joined Sonam Uttam Maskar and Asian Games debutant Vidarsa Vinod to finish second in the team competition.
The Indian trio recorded an aggregate score of 1898.0 points. China took gold with 1904.2, improving the qualification world record of 1902.0 that it had established at the 2025 Asian Championships in Shymkent.
Two silvers from one event
Elavenil’s individual podium finish and the team’s second place gave India two medals from the women’s 10m air rifle competition, making shooting one of the central stories of Day 2.
Suchika Tariyal guarantees an MMA medal
Suchika Tariyal defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2–0 in the women’s traditional 60kg quarterfinal. By advancing to the semifinals, the Indian athlete guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal and kept alive the possibility of reaching the title bout.
Teqball debut ends with two fourth-place finishes
India came within one match of a medal in two teqball events. Quimcy D’Souza finished fourth in the women’s singles after losing the bronze-medal match to Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto 0–2, with both sets decided by narrow margins.
Quimcy D’Souza – Women’s singles
- Beat Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto 2-1 in the group stage.
- Beat Cambodia’s Koemyean Dy 2-0.
- Lost to Indonesia’s Ima Sumaya 1-2 in the semifinal.

D’Souza and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg also finished fourth in mixed doubles. The Indian pair reached the bronze-medal match through the repechage before losing 0-2 to Vietnam’s Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghi Trinh. D’Souza required an extended injury timeout during the second set but returned to complete the contest.
In men’s doubles, Declan Marshall Gonsalves and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg were eliminated in the group phase following defeats against Vietnam and the Republic of Korea. India therefore ended its first Asian Games teqball campaign without a medal, but two fourth-place finishes offered a competitive starting point.
