Ireland vs India 1st T20I Review: Historic Irish Victory Stuns World Champions in Belfast

Ireland started with intent but were rocked early by India’s new-ball attack. Tim Tector hit a six in the opening over, while Ross Adair struck early boundaries, but Harshit Rana removed Adair in the second over.

But Ireland kept striking at the other end. Jai Moondra had a dream start to international cricket, bowling Sanju Samson with his first delivery. Matthew Hollard then dismissed Ishan Kishan off just his second ball before removing Shreyas Iyer in his next over.

India still ended the Powerplay at 68/3, with Abhishek batting at full speed. He reached a 19-ball fifty but fell later in the same over, and Ireland immediately tightened the game through disciplined spin.

Tilak Varma struggled for fluency, Washington Sundar fell to Hollard, and India’s required rate climbed. Shivam Dube offered late resistance with 25 off 14 balls, but his dismissal in the 16th over virtually ended India’s chase.

Axar Patel and Harshit Rana followed soon after, and Matthew Humphreys finished the job despite bowling with injured webbing. India were bowled out for 148, handing Ireland a famous win.

Tucker and Delany changed the match: At 51/4, Ireland were in danger of falling well short. Tucker’s composure and Delany’s late acceleration transformed the innings into a defendable total.

India lost control at the death: Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sundar were expensive, with Ireland cashing in through Dockrell and Delany. The 16th and 17th overs shifted the match sharply.

Ireland’s debutants were fearless: Jai Moondra struck with his first ball in international cricket, while Matthew Hollard removed Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Washington Sundar in a dream spell.

Abhishek’s wicket opened the door: India were flying while Abhishek Sharma was in the middle. His dismissal for 49 completely changed the chase and exposed India’s middle order.
