🧠 Story
Set in the remote village of Raakavaram, the story revolves around a terrifying presence that has haunted the villagers for over 2000 years. Whenever the creature signals, the villagers are forced to offer a human sacrifice to avoid complete destruction.
Veerababu (Sangeeth Shobhan), a carefree US returnee, unknowingly enters the forbidden zone and gets entangled in this deadly ritual. What follows is a mix of horror, humor, and mystery as the film unfolds the truth behind the monster and the village’s curse.
👍 What Works
Sangeeth Shobhan makes a confident impression as the lead and uses his comic timing effectively. His performance keeps the film engaging in several portions. The supporting cast, especially Vennela Kishore and Getup Srinu, provide good humor and help maintain a light-hearted tone.
The interval sequence is well executed and builds curiosity. The second half is comparatively better as it blends horror and comedy elements more effectively. The background score by Anudeep Dev stands out and enhances several key scenes.
👎 What Doesn’t Work
The storyline follows a familiar pattern, and certain developments feel predictable. A tighter screenplay could have made the film more gripping. Some scenes rely on cinematic convenience, which may not appeal to all viewers.
A few characters lack depth, and some comedy scenes fail to land as expected. The pacing in the first half feels slow at times, and the songs slightly affect the flow of the narrative.
🎧 Technical Aspects
Director Manasa Sharma chooses an interesting concept for her debut and handles it in a fairly decent manner. While the writing could have been sharper, her approach keeps the film accessible.
The background score is a major plus, supporting the mood effectively. Cinematography is decent, and the production values are satisfactory for the genre. Editing could have been tighter in certain portions.
🎯 Final Verdict
Raakaasaa is a decent horror comedy that works mainly because of its humor and performances. While it doesn’t fully capitalize on its interesting premise, it still manages to keep the audience engaged in parts.
🏁 Bottom Line
“A light-hearted horror comedy that delivers fun moments but doesn’t fully explore its potential.”
